Frequently Asked Questions
» What is
the PTA?
A Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) is a voluntary
organization bringing together parents and teachers of students in a
particular school or school district, usually for fund-raising, building
parental involvement at school and other activities relating to the welfare
of the school, rather than the progress of individual students. The
Wood PTA is a member of the
MCCPTA, the
Montgomery County Council of Parent-Teacher Associations.» I heard that Wood MS is
participating in the first phase of middle school reform.
What is middle school reform and can you tell me more about this?
Middle school reform is a three-year, $10 million effort to revamp the county's 38 middle schools. Five schools - Benjamin Banneker, Sligo, Roberto Clemente, Montgomery Village and Earle B. Wood are participating in the first phase of
middle school reform.
As middle school reform efforts continue, the Fiscal Year 2009 budget
includes a proposal to expand a number of courses offered in the Middle
School Magnet Consortium (MSMC) to additional middle schools. The move to
add courses would begin with the five Phase 1 schools — Earle B. Wood,
Benjamin Banneker, Sligo, Roberto Clemente and Montgomery Village — and nine
middle schools that will be a part of Phase 2, which haven't yet been
selected.

» What is Edline and how can I register?
Online Achievement and Reporting System (OARS) is comprised of two integrated systems, Pinnacle and Edline. Pinnacle is an electronic grade book accessible only by school staff to record student classroom performance. Edline is a Web-based classroom-to-home communication tool that allows parents/guardians and students to monitor students' classroom performance online, and to communicate with teachers.
