Support the PTA

Membership

Your annual membership in the Wood PTA is the first step in supporting our PTA. The membership fee is very affordable ($5-$20 per year), and gives you the right to vote at any of our PTA meetings. By becoming a member of the local PTA, you will also become a member of the county PTA (MCCPTA), the state PTA and the National PTA. Part of your membership dues pay for those memberships, the other parts pay for the student directory and other materials you receive at PTA meetings.

Volunteer

Many hands make light work! Come and help us out: Whether you just have a little time to spare, like to work from home, like to work at school, like to shop, or like to take on a committee or officer's position, we have a job for you! Please contact our PTA VP of Volunteers, Posie Stitt, at 301-871-7746. Without our dedicated PTA volunteers we would not be able to offer the many activities and services that make Wood a great place to be for students, parents, staff and teachers.

Fundraising

The PTA fundraising activities are many. We collect funds through our membership dues, donations from local restaurants and retailers, the fall fundraiser, Box Tops, Labels for Education, grocery store club cards, etc. There are many easy ways how you can help raise money without costing you anything extra! Fall & Spring Fundraiser

  • Great American Fundraising (formal Kathryn Beich products) - usually starts in November/December, just in time for the holiday season. Order on-line at http://gafundraising.com/, School register #: 1695561
    FYI, even if the fundraising event is finished, you can always order items from the Kathryn Beich and they will donate the designated percent to your school. Wood will receive up to 50% of the proceeds from the sales!
  • Yankee Candle Fundraising - this is our new spring fund raiser. Yankee Candle packets were distributed to all students before Spring Break began. Please check your students' backpacks for the information if you haven't seen the packet yet. We're asking the kids to sell terrific Yankee Candle products to family and friends; up to 40% of the sales proceeds will go to the PTA. The candles make great gifts. Orders are due back to the school on April 7 -- right after Spring Break. BE SURE TO ADD THE APPROPRIATE SALES TAX AS YOU TOTAL UP THE ORDERS. As a reminder: The top Yankee Candle seller will win an iPod Shuffle. The second and third top sellers will receive iTunes gift cards. Scholastic Book Fair - usually we have two book fairs, one in the fall and one in the spring in the school's Media Center. Students will receive a Book Wish List and parents are encouraged to shop during school hours and at specially announced evening hours. Stock up on some books for your child's independent reading requirements or the summer reading list.

Restaurant Fundraiser - look for specially announced "Night's Out" at local restaurants which will donate a percentage of their sales to the Wood PTA.
